Kristen Donelle Livengood is the Parkway Playhouse Managing Director. She is also the Creator and Director of Get the Hook, Parkway Playhouse’s teen improv comedy troupe.
Kristen enjoys teaching acting and improvisational comedy to students of all ages. Other interests include acting, improvisational comedy, singing, dancing, directing, and writing. She lives in Asheville with her husband.
Why do you enjoy being a teaching artist and working with Parkway Playhouse Junior students?
It’s all about the students. Parkway Playhouse Junior is full of students who are excited about theatre and performing, and they remind me of what it was like when I was their age. Opportunities to pursue theatre at a young age wasn’t available to me, so I’m inspired by the students to give them an experience I would’ve taken advantage of.
How are you passionate about the Arts?
I knew that I was interested in performances when, as a young child I could become completely engrossed by someone singing on television. I discovered I was passionate about theatre when I saw The Trestle at Pope Lick Creek for a class credit in college and was rendered so speechless after seeing what theatre could be, that I changed my major the next week. I’ve been obsessed ever since.
Kristen has appeared onstage at Diana Wortham Theatre, Parkway Playhouse, Haywood Arts Regional Theatre, The Feichter Studio, and Asheville Community Theatre.
Onstage at Parkway Playhouse, she has portrayed the roles of Ronnette in Little Shop of Horrors, Mary Erwin in The Ballad of Frankie Silver, Violet (and others) in It's A Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play, Mayor Matilda Hyde in All Shook Up, Jim Hawkin's Mother/Anne Bonny in Treasure Island, General Cartwright in Guys and Dolls and Miss Bingley/Mrs. Gardner in Pride and Prejudice.
She has directed The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, the North Carolina premiere of Leaving Iowa, Forever Plaid, and The Quiltmaker for Parkway Playhouse. She has also directed The Music Man, Jr., Willy Wonka, Jr. and Annie, Jr. for Parkway Playhouse Junior.
Kristen is the Creator and Director of Get the Hook, Parkway Playhouse’s teen improv comedy troupe.
